A Playful Intersection of Craft, Geometry and Comfort
Designed by Michael Schoner, the Picket Chair has a striking detail: the seat and backrest intersect in an unexpected way, making it appear as if parts of the chair are floating; a subtle detail that turns construction into poetry.
‘I love solving puzzles, but I enjoy creating my own puzzles even more.’ – Michael Schoner
With the Picket Chair Schoner demonstrates that simplicity can be powerful. The seat and backrest do not touch thanks to a cut out which results in an elegant detail that seems to resemble folding hands or fingers interlocking. The logic of the cut-out in the board is borrowed from a Tirolian balcony railing where the seams between boards are used to create perforations that also have an ornamental character.
