The international competition “3D Pioneers Challenge” has been offering visionaries a platform for additive manufacturing and advanced technologies since 2015. Now, the book documents and celebrates a decade of innovations and gives an outlook till 2035.

Simone and Christoph Völcker, initiators of the 3D Pioneers Challenge, bring together voices from design, architecture, science, and industry in Pushing Boundaries – Pioneers of Advanced Technologies. International experts explore future fields of additive technologies – from sustainable material cycles and digital manufacturing to visionary applications in medicine, mobility, and construction. The foreword by longtime jury member Ross Lovegrove sets the tone. Lutz Dietzold (German Design Council) writes about the transformative power of design, while Patrik Schumacher (Zaha Hadid Architects) discusses new tectonic paradigms emerging through additive manufacturing. With inspiring projects such as the first printed heart and the 3D-printed metal bridge in Amsterdam, the book shows how technology and design shape the future together – complemented by the editors’ outlook on how the industry might evolve by 2035, in the true spirit of “pushing boundaries.”
